WHO IS CHUCK TAYLOR?
In 1921, Converse contacts a young basketball player, Chuck Taylor, who was also a great seller and admire of the sneakers. After an alliance, Chuck helped with the final design. 1932 Chuck Taylor's name was added to the patch, and the shoe became the Chuck Taylor All-Stars.
Chuck Taylor was born in Azalia, Indiana US on the 24 of June 1901. He was a salesman as well as a basketball player. Taylor started wearing Converse when he was in Columbus High School as a basketball player in 1917. In 1921, he went to the Converse Shoes Chicago sales offices in search of a job where he was then hired. Taylor's suggestions of changing the design of the sneakers to provide flexibility, support and also including the patch to protect the ankle were adopted. |
The Chuck Taylor All Star shoe has developed a number of nicknames over the years, such as: Cons, Connies, Chuck Norris, Convics, Convos, Chicken Taylors, Verses, Chuckers, Chucks, Converse, Chuckalos, Chuckies, Chuck Ts, or Chucker Boots or Chuck Taylors.
In 1968 Taylor retired. Chuck Taylor passed away on the 23 of June 1969, a day before his 68th birthday in Polk County, Florida US. The design that we know now days was born in 1966 thanks to the help of Chuck Taylor. |
